Jochebed kneels inside her home, weaving reeds into the small basket that will carry her infant son to safety. A bed, clay jars, food baskets, and gathered rushes surround her, grounding the moment in the domestic life of enslaved Israel in Egypt. The unfinished basket points to the story of Moses, whose mother hid him from Pharaoh’s decree and prepared an ark of bulrushes to place among the reeds of the Nile. The scene emphasizes faithful courage in a hidden place: before Moses becomes deliverer, his life is preserved through a mother’s obedience, craft, and trust in God’s providence.
