Absalom hangs helplessly from the tangled branches of a great oak, his long hair caught above him as his body is lifted from the forest path. Behind him, an armed pursuer moves through the shadowed woods, recalling the grim end of David’s rebellious son in the battle of the forest of Ephraim.
