Përshkrim
Weathered standing stones rise from an open grassy field beneath a clear sky, forming a quiet landscape of memory, age, and sacred witness. The upright stones suggest an ancient place of remembrance, where earth and stone become markers of covenant, burial, boundary, or worship. Their worn surfaces and solitary placement evoke the biblical practice of setting stones as visible testimony before future generations.

In Scripture, memorial stones often served as tangible signs of God’s acts among His people. When Israel crossed the Jordan, Joshua set up stones so children would ask their meaning and hear the story of the Lord’s deliverance. This scene is well suited for themes of remembrance, heritage, pilgrimage, ancient faith, memorial teaching, and reflection on the enduring witness of God’s works.

Deuteronomy 27:2-8   Genesis 28:18-22   Joshua 4:20-24

Deuteronomy 27

2 And on the day you cross over the Jordan to the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall set up large stones and plaster them with plaster. 3 And you shall write on them all the words of this law, when you cross over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you. 4 And when you have crossed over the Jordan, you shall set up these stones, concerning which I command you today, on Mount Ebal, and you shall plaster them with plaster. 5 And there you shall build an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones. You shall wield no iron tool on them; 6 you shall build an altar to the LORD your God of uncut stones. And you shall offer burnt offerings on it to the LORD your God, 7 and you shall sacrifice peace offerings and shall eat there, and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God. 8 And you shall write on the stones all the words of this law very plainly.”

Genesis 28

18 So early in the morning Jacob took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up for a pillar and poured oil on the top of it. 19 He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first. 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, 21 so that I come again to my father's house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God, 22 and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.”

Joshua 4

20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal. 21 And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, that you may fear the LORD your God forever.”
